چکیده

Assigning trips to the vehicles of a given fleet is known as the trip packing problem. Generally, each trip has a known duration and the working time of vehicles is limited and the fleet is composed of a limited number of non identical vehicles. This paper considers a special version of this problem we met in petrol products transportation. In this special version trip revenue depends on the vehicle selected to do it as vehicles have different capacities and configurations. The paper provides a mathematical formulation of the problem and proposes some simple local search heuristics to solve it. A set of benchmark problem instances is created and used to analyse the performance of the proposed heuristics.

Solving multi-objective team orienteering problem with time windows using adjustment iterated local search

One of the problems tourism faces is how to make itineraries more effective and efficient. This research has solved the routing problem with the objective of maximizing the score and minimizing the time needed for the tourist’s itinerary. Maximizing the score means collecting a maximum of various kinds of score from each destination that is visited. The profits differ according to whether those...

A multi-start local search heuristic for ship scheduling - a computational study

We present a multi-start local search heuristic for a typical ship scheduling problem. A large number of initial solutions are generated by an insertion heuristic with random elements. The best initial solutions are improved by a local search heuristic that is split into a quick and an extended version. The quick local search is used to improve a given number of the best initial solutions. The ...

On the effectiveness of incorporating randomness and memory into a multi-start metaheuristic with application to the Set Covering Problem

The construction of good starting solutions for multi-start local search heuristics is an important, yet not well-studied problem. In these heuristics, randomization methods are usually applied to explore new promising areas and memory mechanisms are incorporated with the main purpose of reinforcing good solutions. Under the template of a typical multi-start metaheuristic, Meta-RaPS (Meta-heuri...

A Two-Phase Hybrid Heuristic Method for a Multi-Depot Inventory-Routing Problem

In this study, a two phase hybrid heuristic approach was proposed to solve the multi-depot multi-vehicle inventory routing problem (MDMVIRP). Inventory routing problem (IRP) is one of the major issues in the supply chain networks that arise in the context of vendor managed systems (VMI) The MDMVIRP combines inventory management and routing decision. We are given on input a fleet of homogeneous ...

A new adaptive multi-start technique for combinatorial global optimizations

We analyze relationships among local minima for the traveling salesman and graph bisection problems under standard neighborhood structures. Our work reveals surprising correlations that suggest a globally convex, or \big valley" structure in these optimization cost surfaces. In conjunction with combinatorial results that sharpen previous analyses, our analysis directly motivates a new adaptive ...
